A throwaway comment by Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis kicked off quite a media storm – dubbed ‘womblegate’ – after he said he was ‘cross’ that The Wombles had been booked… although he was laughing at the time.
With exactly one month to go, The Wombles have begun rehearsing for their live performance at Glastonbury Festival. And Mike Batt has dropped a few hints on Twitter about what to expect.
Following last year’s rumours, this year it’s really happening: The Wombles will play the Avalon Stage at Glastonbury Festival in June. And the original Wombles albums will be re-released on CD at the same time.
Mike Batt was interviewed on Aled Jones’ popular Sunday musical chat show on BBC Radio Wales. The one-hour radio show is available to listen again on the BBC iPlayer or to download as a podcast until 23 May.
There have been rumours in the press that The Wombles could play Glastonbury Festival this year – but Mike Batt appears to have denied them.
