The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant

Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Pageant

The Wombles will appear in Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant on Sunday 5 June.

The parade through the streets around Buckingham Palace starts at 2.30pm and finishes at approximately 5pm, and will be broadcast live on BBC One.

The Platinum Jubilee Pageant tells the story of The Queen’s 70-year reign and our transforming society.

The Wombles will be part of Act 2: The Time of Our Lives, a vibrant display of British life since 1952, moving through a transformation of popular culture over the last 70 years.

They’ll appear on a float celebrating children’s television, with six Wombles alongside the Clangers, Paddington Bear, Postman Pat, Danger Mouse, Fireman Sam, Wallace and Gromit, the Teletubbies, Peppa Pig, Shaun the Sheep, In The Night Garden’s Iggle Piggle, the Gruffalo and Peter Rabbit.

Organisers initially planned for the licensed costume characters to parade down the route, but arrangements had to be altered due to practical concerns.

David Zolkwer, the show’s director, said: “We realised that none of them can actually walk. They’re great at hugging and waving but not great at walking 3km.”
